2013 – AL

In 2013, the Army Ants created AL. Named after the element aluminum on the periodic table, the custom chassis on AL was made out of aluminum, and was the first year the team made a custom chassis.  AL was an excellent frisby-shooting robot with an adjustable altitude angle but struggled a bit with loading from the feeder station.  The robot had hooks to lift the weight of the robot using a screw drive similar to a (slow) chin up.  AL finished seeded 17th at the St. Louis regional and competed in playoffs. Mr. Karl Christopher was the Chief Mentor and Dr. Julie Lyman and Dr. Janet Bagby led marketing and outreach efforts.
